This church was located on HWY 29 north of Greensboro,NC. In the mid 1960s a dynamic minister named Ellis Adams took a small church and grew it into one of the areas first megachurches with a private school and a fleet of buses. In the mid 1970s Rev. Adams did time for tax evasion. His successor Ed Shelton didn't do much better. He resigned after allegations of adultery, which he denied. After that the church dwindled away. By the late 1980s it became the headquarters for a predominantly African-American Pentecostal denomination.

The church Adams took was not a small church in the 1960's. At one time, under Rev. H.P. Gauldin, the church was the largest rural Baptist church in North Carolina.

I was born and raised in the Brightwood section, just right outside Greensboro, NC and I've heard a lot of stories and recordings of Brightwood from back in the day, three of which (recordings), which I'll provide links to, below. No, it wasn't a little church even in the 60s and I must say as well, it was a strong, spiritual and growing work, dispite several splits in those days. Here are the aforementioned recordings.

That last one was preached (more than likely) at Brightwood, somewhat of an educated guess, but there ya have 'em. I've heard more and I wish I had them, but I don't, nor do I want to covet. Hope this helps shed some more light on the situation and furthermore, trust you're helped/blessed by the messages!
